This article has opened many eyes in Fiji. A nine minute video recorded by a cell phone have revealed a man handcuffed and standing against a truck. This man is then brutally attacked by a baton and later a steel pole. When interviewed, the military leader of Fiji says he will defend his men and states that they were doing their duty and keeping peace and safety present throughout the state of Fiji.
This article is pretty scary. In my opinion, the law is in control of you. But when the law performs stunts such as these it makes me wonder what else actually happens but just isn't caught on camera. Also, the reaction of the military leader is quite puzzling. He is not going to punish the men responsible for these heinous acts but, instead, honors them and says they were doing their civic duty. It gives a sense of appreciation for living in the United States where such things wouldn't happen. And if they did, punishment would soon follow.
The incident brought fourth in this article could have a big factor in their politics. Other countries could see the footage and feel the need to intervene for unreasonable punishment for civilians. Also, Fijians might feel as if they were betrayed and want to stand up for what is right. This would cause many problems in the state of Fiji.
